While I pride myself on being a relatively focused person when it comes to what I want out of life, there are some things that conflict. Right now, the conflict weighing heavily on my mind, even though I can’t act on it, is the fact that I want to live in a small house on a nice piece of land. The conflict arises that a larger piece of land is only outside the city limits, and I don’t want to drive/own a motorized vehicle.
So how do I find a way to get what I want with regards to living, without having to deal with the side effect of being required to do what I don’t want to do? I know this sounds like a first world problem, so who the heck cares, but for me, I really want to find a reasonable compromise to this situation.
I’ve considered getting a city lot and building my “smaller” home on it, but most cities have laws regarding smaller homes, and I’m sure nearby neighbors would be none too impressed if I built a home that on the outside, didn’t have the same kind of massive curb appeal as theirs.
On the flip side, my driver’s license is going to expire this fall, and I have no intention of renewing it. This all might seem a bit crazy, but I am getting closer to trying to save up to purchase a reasonable two or three acre lot of land to build on in the future…
