So recently, my friend and neighbor Tom and I went to Montreal for Montreal ComicCon. Our primary goal was to see Wil Wheaton, and despite it being kind of expensive to see one person, I am definitely glad I went.
The first story I have to tell is the one where Tom and I were on our way to the train station. He mentioned that he had brought the perfect shirt for Saturday, the day we were going to be at the Con. I interjected and mentioned that I had brought my Star T-rex shirt that I purchased from TeeFury.
Tom looked at me, stunned, and sighed. I realized that he had brought the same shirt, and where he was slightly disappointed, I kind of reveled in it. I see Tom almost like my older brother, as I’ve mentioned before on this blog, so having matching shirts to me was awesome.
Anyways, back to Wil, not only was his session amazing, audio on SoundCloud thanks to Tom, but I also got my picture taken with him. It was a blink and you’d miss it moment, and unfortunately, the photographer took my picture while I was blinking, and so I’ll forever look confident and stoned.
The best part though was a few days later seeing a spike in my Flickr stats that lead me to seeing my image on Wil Wheaton’s blog. Only seconds after I arrived at the page, Tom knocked at my door with laptop in hand showing me it. We smiled about it, and giggled endlessly. Geeking out is so fun to do.
I guess they had a quick discussion to approve the audio and in the end, my picture ended up getting used for his blog post. It definitely was one of the highlights of my day.
Would I go to Montreal ComicCon again? Maybe if Wil was there again, but I’m hoping they can convince him to come to Ottawa next year instead.
I realized how similar all the conventions are in both booths and attendees. I even saw the same woman with the same costume at both Fan Expo in Toronto and Montreal ComicCon. Also, as much as I love some of the stuff created, I am not one to keep physical goods, so other than t-shirts, and the occasional piece of art, I don’t buy anything and even t-shirts, I’ve become spoiled with sites like TeeFury.
