So, I broke down and bought a Canon 7D. I couldn’t handle waiting. The idea that I wouldn’t have a good camera for Fan Expo in Toronto later this week was just too much, and when I saw a good deal on a lightly used one on Kijiji, I jumped at the opportunity.
I am going to hug it and squeeze it and call it George.
It is a really nice feeling camera, balances out my lens weight, and has given me a few fun features. I really enjoy being able to trigger my external flash despite not being on the hot-shoe. I like the fast shutter actuations per second. I also find the auto-focus system to be fast, and pretty bang on.
Overall, a very exciting camera upgrade for me.
What about the Compact Flash memory?
I went ahead and bought two small but fast cards, and I’ll buy a SD to CF adapter for when I’m in a memory pinch. I will sacrifice speed, but still have access to the crazy amount of memory I’ve purchased.
What about the 7D Mark 2?
It might not happen. Chances are that even if it does, I wouldn’t have been able to afford it, and it wouldn’t have depressed the 7D prices more than I saved buying this used 7D.
This camera won’t make me a better photographer, but it will hopefully hold up to my abuse more than another Rebel would have.
