Lockdown

I always thought it was a bit silly that companies locked down computers so users couldn’t change settings, install software, or do other potentially every day tasks to customize their experience, but after working as the sole IT person for two small businesses, I’m starting to realize how many problems I can save myself if I invest the time and money into reducing users ability to “change” things.

Users just aren’t tech savvy enough or educated enough to be trusted to manage their computers properly in a world where millions of potential problems exist.

I don’t ever assume that anyone is going to be as tech savvy as myself, but for most computer problems, I do assume people will use common sense. Unfortunately, that isn’t the reality I’ve experienced.
