Yup, this blog is hosted on WordPress.com, despite the fact that I know how to self-host my blogs, and I know how to code themes, plugins, etc… Why would I do that? Especially right after they suffer an outage? (Read TechCrunch for a not so nice post about the outage)
In the end, I am tired of paying for hosting, domains, and more. I am scaling back my digital life, and one of the easiest ways to do this is to trust third party tools and services. Their hosting will always, despite any outages, be more stable and have a higher up time than any single server environment I can buy. The “cloud” is just too powerful.
I hope to continue to offload my digital assets to companies, while making sure I can switch/change at any time I choose.
