Met Someone

So, I figure this is probably the easiest way to tell people that know me: I have met someone amazing. I’ve already talked about her on this blog. Her name is Annie, and I met her at science fiction speed dating at Fan Expo in Toronto.

She and I have a lot in common, and have been enjoying talking to each other through text messaging and Skype. Thank goodness for technology sometimes.

I didn’t have any expectations going into the speed dating event, and while I enjoyed my time hanging out with her while we were there, I didn’t know if anything would come of it all. Distance makes relationships hard but we have been building a fast friendship, and maybe more…

Everything with Annie has been really easy. She is fun to talk to, can handle and dish out sarcasm and wit, and we see eye to eye on many topics. I am also not too afraid that my crazy family or my highly witty friends will scare her away. (You know I love you all!)

It even looks like I will be heading to her town on the far side of Toronto, for Thanksgiving weekend in a little over two weeks. It isn’t the cheapest date I’ve been on, but I’m looking forward to it. It also means I will be meeting her family.

I am definitely nervous about the whole thing, but also excited. I don’t know what to expect, though she has been working on preparing me the best she can. Every family has their traditions during holidays and their own idiosyncrasies, and I hope to not embarrass her too much during my visit.

The best part so far has just been having someone I can geek out with that is of the opposite sex and doesn’t look at me like I’m crazy.

I don’t know what to expect from all of this. I’m trying not to get too wrapped up in it or set expectations above the level of where the relationship currently is, but I definitely have hopes that things will go well. Which even on its own… might be too much at this stage. I don’t know.

I could almost write an entire post about my lack of understanding regarding how a relationship should progress. I over think things to crazy levels, and have an imagination that is boundless. At the end of the day though, I enjoy spending time talking to her, and it has been the bright spot in my days the last month.

And lastly, if nothing else, it is great to have a new friend in my life that understands my geeky side.

  1. Well I think its great and long distance relationships do work out just more time on the phone , computer chatting , or going down when possible to hook up for a weekend.. it is expensive but if things do work out well its worth the effort..
