Pixel Has Reached Viability

For those of you that don’t read my wife’s blog, or follow me on social media, you might be surprised to find out that our surrogate has passed the twenty-four week point with Pixel, our nickname for the baby, meaning we’ve reached minimum viability!

Okay, sure there are things that could still go wrong and rob us of raising our child, but at this point, we are the furthest we’ve ever come with a pregnancy and it is more likely each day that we will get to raise Pixel. So I wanted to celebrate this milestone.

We don’t know if we are having a boy or a girl. We chose to not find out as it is basically the only surprise we have in this process.

We have had people balk at the idea of not knowing as it means that they can’t buy the cool pink unicorn onesie that they love or something to that effect. My response to them, and to anyone reading this is that a baby under a year old really doesn’t care what they wear, and if you are excited about getting Pixel something, please don’t stress about gendered clothing.

The due date is November 16th, which is two days after my birthday.

Everything we do is a bit scary and feels a bit like we are potentially jinxing it. We haven’t bought anything for Pixel yet. We won’t have a baby shower or anything until after they are born.

This has been a ten year journey to get to this point, and we are super grateful for all of the people that have helped us through this process and it really does take a whole community of people to make this happen. Surrogacy is no small feat to achieve!

I am getting more and more excited and nervous each day. I know that Pixel will be a big part of my life going forward and I had become very comfortable with how my life is, so this is going to be super interesting!

If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.
